Firmly convinced of the power of a smile, Gustav Ehrenreich created the joyful Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The aim was to design a figurine that would constantly remind people of the importance of staying positive and optimistic. For although the 1960s are often called "the happy 60s," the decade was marked by troubling events. That's why the joy radiating from Ehrenreich's design was much welcomed during such a turbulent time. Bimble and Bumble are the very first Hoptimists created by the designer: a girl in a dress with smiling eyes and a thoughtful boy with a stick on his head. Today, the cheerful Hoptimists are part of Danish design history and spread joy all over the world.
